Vicki Gunvalson’s fiance Steve Chavez Lodge is throwing his hat in the ring in the upcoming recall election opposing California governor Gavin Newsom.
Lodge, 62, a retired homicide detective and small business owner from Orange County, announced his candidacy with an Instagram video on Tuesday.
Gunvalson, 59, supported her fiance through Instagram comments while also posting a joke about what she’d do as California’s First Lady on her Instagram story.

‘Good evening. Over the next few days, you’re going to hear my strategy on how to save California,’ he began in his video.
‘I was born and raised here in this great state, and I raised my children here and I’m watching my grandchildren be raised here. But I cannot stand idly by while we allow government to destroy this beautiful state,’ he added.
‘We the people need to turn this around and take our state back, and I have a plan to do that. That’s why tonight I’m announcing that I’m running for Governor of the state of California. I hope you’re with me,’ he concluded in his video.

The video was also accompanied by a lengthy message, where he denounced the ‘career politicians’ in the California state capitol of Sacramento.
He began by reiterating what he said in the video, adding his time growing up here, ‘was a time when people still called California the Golden State.’
He added he cannot watch his, ‘beautiful state being destroyed by bad decisions made by Sacramento career politicians.’

‘Its time for the people of California to regain control of their government, not only at the state level, but in the counties, cities, and school boards,’ he added.
‘Over the past decade we have seen the consequences of horrible state policies and even worse legislation. We now have the highest cost of living in the continental US and its still going up with no end in sight,’ he added.
‘Our public safety is being eroded and crime is increasing in every category. Our homeless population is out of control directly caused by decisions in Sacramento,’ Lodge continued.

He also proclaimed that he has, ‘the solution to the homeless issue and am excited to share it with you in the coming days.’
Lodge added he will be discussing, ‘California’s other important issues and demonstrate common sense solutions. Enough is enough California.’
He also borrowed former President Donald Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’ slogan by pledging to, ‘Make California, California Again,’ adding he will, ‘lead this movement with your help to see California once again as the Golden State she once was.’
