Rust Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins Identified as Victim of Tragic Accident on Set

The woman killed on the set of the upcoming Alec Baldwin western movie Rust has been identified as cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The 42-year-old filmmaker was injured on set after a prop firearm was accidentally discharged at around 1:50pm local time on Thursday (October 21) in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The 42-year-old filmmaker was injured on set after a prop firearm was accidentally discharged at around 1:50pm local time on Thursday (October 21) in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Halyna was transported by helicopter to University of New Mexico Hospital, where she died. A second crew member was injured and is receiving emergency care at a Santa Fe hospital.

The International Cinematographers Guild, Local 600 released a statement confirming Halyna‘s tragic death.

John Lindley, the president of the guild, and Rebecca Rhine, the executive director, said in a statement, “We received the devastating news this evening, that one of our members, Halyna Hutchins, the Director of Photography on a production called Rust in New Mexico died from injuries sustained on the set. The details are unclear at this moment, but we are working to learn more, and we support a full investigation into this tragic event. This is a terrible loss, and we mourn the passing of a member of our Guild’s family.”
