An Australian couple who quit their full-time jobs as lawyers to pursue a beauty brand have made more than $150,000 in 48 hours following an astronomical year of sales throughout 2020.

Founders Mia and Ermin Plakalo launched Peppy Co at the start of last year, offering a LED light therapy mask designed to reduce the appearance of acne and leave skin glowing.

The unique beauty gadget, priced at $179, harnesses three therapeutic lights for a cleaner complexion after 10 minutes of use per day.

The mask utilises a blue light to banish bacteria, red light to prevent wrinkles and a yellow light to detoxify the skin all in the comfort of your own home.

After being supported by celebrities and reality television stars, the business has skyrocketed and this financial year the brand has already turned over more than $1 million in revenue.

Colour light therapy is a treatment offered at thousands of medispas and salons and works by using light in different colours and wavelengths to target specific skin concerns.

The blue light can help to eliminate p-acne causing bacteria from the root, improve the environment inside the pores and restrain bacteria found deep in the skin.

The red light is used to increase hydration, promote collagen and eliminate wrinkles while the yellow light promotes circulation, dilutes pigment and can help reduce the roughness of the skin.

The mask is completely eco-friendly, has no UVA or UVB radiations and is not a laser.

The Peppy Co range also features a $119 silicone cleansing egg to gently but deeply cleanse your face without causing irritation.

A $25 gentle cleanser and $49 all-in-one sleeping mask is also available, and both have hundreds of positive reviews online.

Despite the swift growth, Mia said the success didn’t occur overnight and required ‘a lot of time, energy and perseverance’.

‘We were working hard but there were no results; it was psychologically difficult for us to deal with the fact that we were failing at something we wanted to work so badly,’ Mia told FEMAIL.

‘We are both high achievers. We both have double degrees in law and business, our professional career was something we always wanted to be proud of.’

The pair both have double degrees in law and business but decided to start an e-commerce business together, initially planning to open a law firm.

But after battling skin imperfections they decided to turn to starting a skincare range.

‘It was a process of big learnings, great insights and self-reflection, and the biggest determination that got us to our first $100,000 monthly revenue,’ Mia said.

Is the LED Light Mask safe to use?

LED light therapy is the only aesthetic device that has no contra-indications of any kind. LED lights are eco-friendly and clean light sources that virtually do not lead to any UVA or UVB radiations and is not a laser. It is suitable for all skin type, colours and conditions.

If you are pregnant or nursing, consult with your health care professional before use. There has not been enough research about the safety of LED Light therapy for pregnant or nursing women.

If you have any concerns, it’s always best to seek advice from a professional before starting any new treatment.

It’s always important to protect your eyes and either wear blackout or opaque goggles or find masks that come with the appropriate eyewear.

‘I’ve always used LED after getting a professional facial but never have I seen an at home LED mask until I came across this,’ she wrote.

‘I purchased it after seeing it all over social media and I am so glad I gave it a chance! I love how this LED light has three settings – one for acne, one for anti ageing and one for cell renewal.

‘My first time using it I left it on for 10 minutes as recommended and I saw an instant result. Skin felt rejuvenated and cleaner. I’m obsessed.’
