Jon Bokenkamp has announced that he is leaving The Blacklist after eight season as the NBC series’ showrunner.

The creator and EP of the show explained his exit in a lengthy note to Blacklist fans he posted, which followed star Megan Boone‘s exit by just hours.

His exit has apparently been in the works for a while.

“It’s time for me to step out of my comfort zone, try something new, and explore some of the other characters and stories that have been crawling around in my head,” Jon explained to fans.

He also thanked dedicated fans and mentioned that he has enjoyed following their podcasts, tweets, fan fiction, and more.

“I genuinely believe the series remains full of life, creatively strong, and that bright days lie ahead,” he added, mentioning that the series will return for a ninth season.
