‘D.P.’ focused on two soldiers tasked to bring back military deserters

Actor Jung played the leading role of Private Ahn Joon-ho, a new military recruit fulfilling his mandatory service. From the first day, Joon-ho witnesses the brutality of the military and the misuse of power by his superiors against other soldiers. He is given the opportunity to join the D.P. (deserters pursuit) team. A team specialized in bringing back AWOL soldiers.

His teammate is the goofy and carefree Corporal Han Ho-yu (Koo). Joon-ho and Ho-yu return to civilian life to track down soldiers, well aware of why they escaped. Along the way, Joon-ho unearths the brutality, bullying, and mistreatment that led the soldiers to desert the military.

D.P.’s storyline and message resonated with global audiences and led to a second season. The drama and cast also took home wins at the 58th Baeksang Awards. After the K-drama, Jung teased fans with a D.P. Season 2, and its main cast has been revealed.

Fans are eager to see what happens to Joon-ho after the open-ended finale of the first season. By the sixth episode, being part of the D.P. team has taken an emotional toll on Joon-ho. He witnesses the brutality of the military and the repercussions of going AWOL.

The last case of the season pushed Joon-ho over the edge. He uncovers the severe mistreatment Suk-bong faced by his superior, Hwang Hang-soo. Mentally broken, Suk-bong plans to kill him for getting away with what he did after his discharge. Joon-ho and Ho-yu track him down before it’s too late. Already deep into the darkness of his mind, Suk-bong sees no other way out and says he needs to make a change and dies by suicide.

The ending scene of D.P. shows Joon-ho back at the military base. As a group of trainees run past him, Joon-ho looks straight into the camera before running off toward the entrance. He stops before crossing the line, then leaves base. D.P. Season 2 will continue the team’s story and if the cases have affected Joon-ho.
